Newsletter, September’12 Issue.   www.luxeindia.in

Dear Friend,

Greetings from India!

We have experienced late monsoons this year, that arrived later and greater than expected. We are once again reminded, that India cannot be an ordinary experience. After all, she is the world’s largest democracy, holding succinctly over twenty official languages; the mother of numeracy, algebra, trigonometry and calculus; and in the ancient doctrines, the Vedas, rests the essence of today’s most astonishing scientific and philosophical thought. Normality, to put it simply, is not on her itinerary.

This peculiar nature - - an overwhelming state of flux - - has its roots in the coming together of a diverse range of people, be it historically through Empires or Colonialism, and of interests in all forms of disciplines, such as the Arts, Sciences, Humanities, and Spirituality.

“India was the motherland of our race, and Sanskrit the mother of Europe’s languages: she was the mother of our philosophy; mother, through the Arabs, of much of our mathematics; mother, through the Buddha, of the ideals embodied in Christianity; mother, through the village community, of self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all.”

Will Durant, American Historian

This September, let us celebrate the union of India’s diversity through various luxury experiences and destinations that allow us to understand the depths and universality of the Indian Spirit.

Hope you enjoy reading the newsletter!

Most Warmly

Laxmansagar –a hidden gem, ideal for those who wish to pause for a while in the quietude of an isolated spot, tucked away in the scenic vistas of Raipur, not very far from the hustle and bustle of the tourist circle of Rajasthan. Sprawling over 32 acres, the resort, a destination in itself offers ample opportunities to relax in truly pristine natural surroundings, feel a dash of heritage of an erstwhile hunting lodge and simply get lost for a day or two and feel rejuvenated before continuing your journey of Rajasthan.  Read More....

La Villa Shanti, Pondicherry
  Luxe Hotel

An understated exterior in the French colony of Pondicherry, La Villa Shanti compliments this Month’s theme with their alternative luxury designs. Upon entering lies a courtyard restaurant and bar offering local seafood recipes with a contemporary twist and refreshing beverages - - altogether shadowed by a vertical garden. It is further surrounded in monochromatic shades of white, grey and brown with accents of saffron orange and red; and a motif of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the leading travel blogger (not the Brad Pitt movie!).

Unlike many cutting-edge developments, La Villa Shanti blends modern luxury with a Heritage monument to cater for today’s comforts within the historical period of French Colonialism. As a heavenly home away from home, each guest residing within one of only fifteen, individually customized rooms is hosted by a total of thirty-two staff members. Read More....

Matrimandir, Auroville

"Auroville is meant to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity."

Roger Anger (Architect of Auroville)
The act of unison is difficult to express in words. It is not merely cooperation amongst individuals, but a philosophy under which people can build relationships and mutual understandings. Most of all however, it makes joint action not only possible but effective. Unity in itself therefore, is not an end-point but the medium through which all action materializes. This unique experience is embodied wholeheartedly and with immense grace in the small township of Auroville in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Read More....

Thai High, New Delhi
  Luxe Restaurant

With a fantastic terrace view of the Qutub Minar and the Bhool Bhullaiya (a tomb colloquially termed the ‘Haunted House’), Thai High offers a selection from the Oriental cuisine while reveling in the character of Mehrauli, the first medieval city of Delhi.

To truly appreciate the experience, a brief insight into the overlooking monuments is a must. The Qutub Minar stands seven stories high as the first ever example of Islamic architecture in the Indian subcontinent. Upon victory, Qutub-ud-din Aybak, the first Muslim ruler of India, destroyed twenty-one Hindu, Jain and Buddhist temples and from their remnants built an Islamic center-point - - the Qutub Minar and its adjacent mosque. Luxe Signature Journey   Luxe “In the Know”
Khooni Darwaza

One of thirteen remaining gates of the Mughal city Shahajanabad (today known as Old Delhi); Khooni Darwaza literally translates to ‘Bloody Gate’. Gates of Old Delhi were often used to hang bodies, display beheaded skulls and spread fear amongst enemies. This particular gate however, is ruthlessly renowned for its blood-thirsty history starting from the Mughal era to the British Empire.

Located near Delhi Gate on the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in Delhi, India, the only verified occurrence dates back to the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Often termed the first war of Independence, on September the 22nd, three Mughal Princely sons of Bahadur Shah Zafar were shot by William Hodson. Read More....
