Abhaneri Step Well

Hidden between Jaipur and Agra is the village of Abhaneri- the city of brightness, known for its Baolis or step wells. Step wells are the unique concept of India used as royal baths, reservoirs and a respite from the summer heat and Abhaneri is one of India’s deepest and largest step wells, famous for its splendid architectural style. With the excavation of this ancient site having begun in 1955, it has just recently found a place in the route map of travelers and thus offers a rare opportunity to witness an eye-catching architectural antiquity without the crowds. With stairs all around in a geometric pattern, you find yourself in an amazing maze of thousands of steps all descending deep into the abyss of the well. This 1200 year old step well in the present day is in ruins but its structure and delicate carvings are still delightful to the eyes.  Read More....

Cruise on river Hooghly
  Luxe Experience
One of the best ways to behold Bengal’s history is to cruise on the river Hooghly- a sail down the memory lane, from the time when Job Charnock dropped his first anchor at Cossim Bazar. Framed between the two steel structures of, Vidyasagar Setu, and the magnificent Howrah Bridge, very old landmarks from the days of the British Raj, there are numerous ghats that tell us tales of Kolkata's past and present life. Early morning is the time when the ghats come alive buzzing with activities - masseurs, bathers, rituals, ferries carrying office goers between the two banks, boats carrying goods, the fishermen throwing their nets around and more. Your accompanying locaphile narrates the history of the Great City of Kolkata & the ghats as you absorb the beauty of life passing by, sailing on the river.

Diwali-The festival of lights
  Luxe In the Know
The biggest and the brightest of all Hindu festivals-Diwali, is a festival of lights symbolizing the victory of righteousness and the lifting of spiritual darkness. Diwali commemorates the return of Lord Rama, along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, from his 14-year-long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. In joyous celebration of the return of their king, the people of Ayodhya, the Capital of Rama, illuminated the kingdom with earthen diyas and celebrated his arrival by bursting fire crackers. This tradition is followed till today. The illumination of homes with lights and the skies with fire crackers is an expression of obeisance to the heavens for the attainment of health, wealth, knowledge, peace and prosperity. Diwali is the celebration of life, its enjoyment and goodness.
